Resetting the Attention Clotck
Students may have difficulty paying attention to you in class, their concentration drifting with time.
What can you do to keep their attention? Reset the attention clock!
Here are some ways to reset the clock:
* Change your position, move to a different part of the room
* Let students move
* Have students do a write-pair-share or compare lecture notes with a neighbor
* Change media: show a video clip, use the projector, write on the chalkboard
* Present an example, tell a story, ask a question
* Present a demonstration
* Anything different from what you have been doing!
Reset the clock as frequently as needed. To know when it is needed, youll
need to be tuned into your class, checking for attentiveness, which is our topic
for next time!
Coffee thought: How can I reset the clock during my next class meeting?
